On Saturday 15th March 2025, approximately 18:35, a serious road traffic collision occurred on the M1 (Southbound) close to the M18 Slip Road, involving a family car carrying three family dogs. A driver was arrested for failing to provide a roadside breath test after the crash, which saw his vehicle collide with the family car carrying three of their dogs.
Sadly, immediately following the collision, Darcy the family Springer Spaniel crossed over The Rainbow Bridge. Whilst Mabel, Darcy’s Sister, was kept safe their chum Athena a German Shepherd escaped in panic along the M1/M18 slip road. Now, in Darcy’s memory and with the support of her owners Mark and Michelle & family, we would like you to help us raise the funds to purchase a much needed all weather Thermal Search Drone.
More importantly, we want to name the Drone after Darcy so that her legacy will live on as our eyes in the sky and help rescue many more dogs in the weeks, months, and years to come!

Message from The K9-RSQ Team:
For us as a team, this is not foremost about raising money for a Drone, rather it’s all about DARCY. It’s about making something positive out of a tragedy. It’s about Darcy never being forgotten as indeed she never will by her loving Family, Sister Mabel, and best friend Athena the German Shepherd.
In our minds this new Thermal Drone WILL be Darcy’s Eyes in The Sky, helping Team K9-RSQ rescue even more lost dogs. Darcy will quite literally be helping us rescue much loved missing dogs.
In This Journey, There Will Be Four Pivotal Moments for us:
1. The very first donation—no matter the amount—will be a powerful moment. It will mark the first bright light to shine from the heartbreak of the unnecessary loss of Darcy in March 2025. A spark of hope born from sadness.
2. The day Drone Darcy lifts into the sky for her very first flight (stay tuned!) will be a moment of transformation. It will mean the fundraiser has fulfilled its mission—turning love and loss into action, and giving missing dogs a better chance of being found.
3. When Drone Darcy spots her first lost dog through the camera lens, it will be as if Darcy herself is watching over them – helping them back toward safety.
4. And then, the moment we’ve all dreamed of: Drone Darcy helping reunite her very first dog with its family. That will be the moment we feel her spirit most clearly—still saving lives, still making her mark.
It’s these four moments that are driving us to raise the money for the Drone and to see something positive come from such an unnecessary loss.

More importantly, we will send you a sequence of fundraiser updates that we will ask you to share far and wide. We will provide you with template messages that you can send to family and friends (adding your own personal message if you choose).
The reason we are asking for volunteers to help us do this is because sharing on Social Media (like Facebook) alone IS NOT ENOUGH. Although of course sharing on Social Media is a must for any Fundraising Campaign, it’s the personal interaction we make with family and friends that really makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE.

K9-RSQ is a team volunteers who are experienced in Search and Rescue of lost dogs primarily in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire area.
We utilise state-of-the-art technology such as remotely-operated humane traps, thermal search drones, remote surveillance cameras and all the peripheral equipment needed to keep these resources working.
Because K9-RSQ is a 100% FREE service, we never charge for our services, we rely heavily on donations from the public and often donations made by the owners of rescued dogs.
