K9-RSQ – The Legacy Search & Rescue, Sheffield
Legacy Safely Reunited After an Extraordinary Search
Legacy, a beautiful and gentle dog, spent most of her life surviving alone in the mountains of Gran Canaria before being captured due to a leg injury and brought to the UK. Just over a week after arriving, she was startled by fireworks and escaped, covering an astonishing amount of ground.
Her journey led her onto the **M1 motorway near Thorpe Hesley**, where police had to slow traffic as she ran along the hard shoulder. From the moment she went missing, HARTSAR’s Erica Hart, K9-RSQ, and The Drone Ranger were called in, using drones and thermal imaging to track her movements.
Despite near captures—once almost securing her in a garden—Legacy continued to evade rescue. K9-RSQ’s trapping team identified a key area she frequented, setting up surveillance cameras and baiting a humane trap.
After weeks of challenges—including well-meaning people accidentally scaring her and a near-miss with a car—Legacy finally returned to the trap site. Drawn in by food and familiar scents, she circled the trap for over ten minutes before stepping inside.
A True Team Effort
Thanks to the dedication of K9-RSQ, HARTSAR, expert drone pilots, and the local community, Legacy is now safe. Special thanks go to everyone who followed expert advice, allowing her a secure space to return to.
This rescue is a testament to patience, teamwork, and the power of coordinated efforts. Welcome home, Legacy!
