Milo Safely Home After a Week on the Run
February 2025
After nearly seven days on the move, Milo, a shy and anxious pup, has been safely captured and reunited with his family. His recovery on Saturday, February 1st, was the result of tireless effort and seamless collaboration between K9-RSQ, Erica Hart of HARTSAR, and K9-SAR.
The Escape and the Search
Milo went missing on January 25th, around 2:00 PM, while out on a walk with his owner at Brockadale Nature Reserve (WF8 3LJ). Not long after, he was seen running across fields near the A1, heading toward Wentedge Road. With his direction uncertain, teams began a wide-area search.
Drone Pilot Erica Hart was already assisting in tracking efforts. Over the following days, the team maintained eyes on the area, using surveillance stations, drone footage, and sighting reports to monitor Milo’s movements (see videos).
A Trap, Patience, and Success
By Friday, January 31st, K9-RSQ set up a humane trap at a location Milo had shown interest in. That night, cameras captured footage of him sniffing around the trap, but his cautious nature kept him from entering.
Then, on Saturday afternoon, Milo made his return. At approximately 3:00 PM, after circling the area, he finally stepped into the trap—and the door was remotely secured. His week-long adventure had come to a safe and peaceful end.
Teamwork Makes the Difference
Milo’s safe return was made possible by the commitment of K9-SAR, K9-RSQ, HARTSAR, and the supportive local community who shared sightings and respected the need to give him space. This rescue once again shows the value of collaboration, humane trapping, and public awareness in recovering lost dogs.
To everyone who followed updates, spread the word, or contributed to the effort: thank you. Because of you, Milo is back where he belongs—home.
